Autumn is the season to get ahead of problems. Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and replace batteries while you’re at it.
Swap the HVAC filter, bleed radiators if you have them, and check windows and doors for drafts. A simple draft stopper can make a room noticeably warmer.
Outside, clear leaves from gutters and drains, disconnect hoses, and note anything that looks off. If something needs a professional, report it now — before the first cold snap makes everyone busy.
